On-board gas systems for military aircraft
We engineered a special version of our CERMAX portable hygrometer, with integrated sampling system, modified software and electronics and a heavy duty battery for a military application to monitor moisture content in various aircraft gas systems. Not only was this successfully deployed by the customer, it also resulted in a NATO stock listing of the instrument which is now available for similar military or heavy-duty industrial applications.

Water vapour transmission through chocolate bar packaging
A particular customer needed to investigate how different wrapper materials protected a chocolate bar from the effects of external humidity conditions. So, in conjunction with the customer and a supplier of precision mass balances, we engineered a closed-loop system to generate and measure a precisely known humidity environment in which variations in the mass of a chocolate bar (in its wrapper could be measured and related back to variations in the material and construction of the wrapper itself. This system has been in use for many years and has helped to ensure that chocolate bars from this company reach you in the perfect state that they were produced.
Preservation of rare flower seeds
In a third example another customer wanted to measure the moisture content of a very rare and expensive flower seed, normally stored in controlled conditions. An S4000 Precision Cooled Mirror Dewpointmeter was specially adapted to provide a minimum fixed volume chamber in which the ERH (Equilibrium Relative Humidity) could be related directly back to the moisture content of the sample. This complete solution from Michell helps a National Seed Bank to preserve its samples for years in the knowledge that, when needed, the seeds can still be germinated.
